Arizona BLM Grazing Allotments to be Assessed during 2002
For Compliance with Arizona's Standards for Rangeland Health and Guidelines for Grazing Administration.
Arizona BLM regulations require an assessment of the ecological condition of every BLM livestock grazing allotment to determine compliance with statewide grazing standards and guidelines. The assessments provide opportunities for public participation in the livestock management planning process for individuals who submit a written request to the appropriate BLM field office asking to be designated as an "interested public" for specific allotments.
Individuals who have acquired interested public status for an allotment will be sent a draft allotment assessment for review. The draft should include the BLM's recommendations for improving conditions on the allotment when the standards and guidelines aren't being met. After considering the responses they receive, the BLM then issues a proposed decision, accompanied by an environmental assessment (EA). The proposed decision is followed by a 15 day protest period, after which the decision becomes final. The final decision is followed by a 30 day appeal period.
